When Joe Bonamassa took the MGM /Fenway stage the guitar player looked like a preacher delivering a sermon “About the Night Before“. Then his band rocked and he rolled through the play-list driving communicants into an altered state with every hot-lick.

Soulful and deep Bonamassa’s blues sounded familiar and felt exhilarating. Leaning into strings, his body moved organically, pleased to tease the audience into a state of anticipation. Breathlessly waiting for his next play, his lovers cheered as Joe slowly changed guitars. With experienced hands the maestro caressed each fretboard like a young woman ~until the band and dancers whaled into his funk.
When it was over, Bonamassa buffs who’ve followed the virtuoso since his days of playing college dive-bar days streamed onto Lansdowne Street. Dazed from the haze of the Grammy winner’s performance one woman asked around for something to smoke. “After that kinda passion all I want to do is slow down and relax a little.”
She had a point.
Touring through Europe now, Joe Bonamassa’s scheduled to return to the US in July. If you can, catch him live. The Preacher delivers a night worth remembering. If you can’t see him in person, take a “Drive” into the night and relax with his virtual licks. The guy who at twelve years old named his first band “Smokin Joe Bonamassa” can still make a girl wanna light-up.
