“Hopie in the Garden” : Hilary Pecis 2021

Just as our gardens begin to wake-up Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts celebrates all things springy.  “Framing Nature” is a colorful new exhibit as soul-satisfying as the daffodils dancing along Boston’s Marathon route.

Seeded with inspiration, there’s nothing conventional about this installation. The MFA’s garden-galleries bloom with Eden-scapes, ‘fashion plates’, quirky benches and all kinds of fancifully bejeweled flora and fauna.

“Framing Nature” is a riotous collection of garden-ology.  Simultaneously sacred, and secular, this exhibit begins as a multi-sensorial stroll through imaginative gates that flirt with all your senses. (*Bonus points, these petals are pollen-free!)

The journey begins with a majestic tapestry inviting guests to explore allegorical landmarks of life’s four seasons. As your eyes wander the ancient wall-sized wonder, if you listen closely you’ll hear a recording of footsteps shuffling along the garden path at the Place of Versailles.

Tapestry of life in a garden

Not to be missed in this commune with Nature is the China Service Empress Joséphine used when Napoleon was in the mood for ice cream. Botanical prints, Japanese Scrolls, paintings of all verdant passions line gallery walls surrounding Designer dresses fit for a spring-fling.  And, a series of ultra-creative bench-marks landmark the timelessness of every garden’s life lessons.
