It’s in the news ~ but it’s not news; drinking alcohol takes it’s toll on us.

According to the Mass General/Brigham Hospital “The safest level of alcohol consumption is, NONE.” The list of health risks associated with imbibing include; cancer, heart and liver disease, high blood pressure, stroke and sleep disruptions.

Although committing to a life free of alcohol may require a complex conversation about lifestyle choices, this little birdie, an ancient  harbinger of good luck, suggests it’s worth a try to give-up cocktails for a month.  Research says, meeting the challenge has the potential to pay long-term dividends.

Plentiful are on-line suggestions for exotic mocktails. Long lists of extracts poured over ice may eliminate alcohol from your system but they’ll also lift a little cash from your post-holiday stash.  While you sweep away holiday glitter STP thinks it’s easier to raid the kitchen pantry and use what ‘cha got as a substitute for buying more from a store.

Light on calories with plenty of fizz, here’s a nostalgic stand-by for a delicious drink that doesn’t require much effort. Just add a favorite glass, a wedge of lime and a couple of straws to a varietal Cranberry juice and gingerale.

The little birdie promises with a little luck the swap will leave you healthier, wealthier and wiser in 2025.
