Newport is so much more than a posh summertime watering hole.  Even in January, it’s longitude and latitude landmark a transformative site in American history.

On January 15th, on what would have been Martin Luther King’s 95th birthday, The Preservation Society of Newport is offering free general-admission to the Breakers and Rosecliff mansions in honor of his transformative spirit.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Breakers will be open for self-guided tours.

Breakers : 44 Ochre Point, Newport Rhode Island

Rosecliff’s self-guided tours will be available from 10:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Rosecliff : 548 Bellevue Ave Newport, Rhode Island

Prior to arrival, visitors with smart phones are welcome to download the Newport Mansions audio-tour app to enhance time spent exploring lifestyles of the gilded age.

Breakers copper-lined kitchen

On Monday, the weather will be clear in Newport with outside temps expected to be around 30 degrees.  But inside the gilded halls and marble walls of Newports’s historic ‘cottages’ it will be ohhh so cozy with a super cool vibe.

You don’t need to be a fan of HBO’s Gilded Age to enjoy this magnificent walk through time. The mansions are totally, To Di For.
