Perched on the second floor balcony of the Wang Theater an American Eagle watched the USPO unveil the #lunar new year snake stamp

Boston’s gilded-age landmark, the Boch Center~Wang Theater was the venue the U.S. Post Office chose to unveil “The Snake”, one of it’s ‘forever-stamps’.

Affixing this design, commemorating the Chinese Lunar New Year, to letters and packages is intended to grant the sender and recipient good health, great joy and much prosperity.  For seventy three cents~this stamp is a bargain!

Zodiac characteristics of the snake symbolize adaptability, intuition and wisdom. For those born in the year of the slithering creature their horoscope predicts a 12 month cycle of prosperity and success in both personal and professional relationships.

On January 14th, 2025, the interior of the Wang Theater glowed with red up-lighting. Asian cultures believe the color symbolizes life-generating energy and good fortune.  Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy Performers crashed symbols and pounded drums announcing the dramatic beginning of the Lunar New Year.

Choreographed dancers paraded a jewel encrusted serpent and scarlet lion around guests in awe of the elaborate spectacle.  It’s believed the longer the dance, the greater the luck in the New Year.

Tiffany Chan, weekend anchor at CBS affiliate, WBZ News Boston TV4 explained the symbolism of the performance and said as a little girl celebrating the New Year with family and friends was a cultural tradition she looked forward to with enthusiam. Major of Boston, Michelle Wu’s Chief of Staff, Tiffany Chu, explained it was important to unveil this stamp in Boston in recognition of how dynamic the entire Asian culture is to the City’s commitment to diversity.
